Physician Match for LAM Patients

Choosing a doctor can be difficult, but it is one of the most critical decisions you can make. It's especially difficult when you're dealing with a rare, unknown disease, such as LAM. While you may never find a doctor that fits all your criteria, it is important that you are comfortable with them and trust that they can guide you through the difficult decisions you may face.

Questions to Consider When Choosing a Doctor

  • Does the doctor accept your health insurance?
  • Does the doctor specialize in the area that matches your needs?
  • Is the doctor familiar with or knowledgeable about LAM? If not, make sure that he/she is willing to learn and to consult with other physicians who are knowledgeable about the disease.
  • How long has he/she been in practice?
  • How long does it usually take to get an appointment?
  • How long or difficult is the trip to the doctor's office?
  • Which hospitals does the doctor use?
  • Are you comfortable speaking with your doctor?
  • Is the doctor a good listener?
  • Does the doctor spend adequate time with his/her patients?

Talking to other women with LAM in your area about their doctors can also be helpful. If you would like to have the names of other LAM patients in your area who have given consent to release their personal contact information, please contact Sally Lamb at Patient Services Office.
